INTRO TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE

The Criminal Justice program at IGNITE Pathways offers students the opportunity to explore careers in law enforcement, legal services, corrections, and public safety. This hands-on program provides a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system, including criminal law, investigation techniques, ethical practices, and community relations. Students gain valuable experience through simulations, case studies, and real-world applications, preparing them for various roles in the criminal justice field.

Course Description

Introduction to Criminal Justice introduces the agencies and processes involved in the apprehension, conviction, and punishment of criminal offenders. Topics include law and the Constitution, the purpose of law enforcement, the role of the police officer, federal and state courts, penal institutions, probation and parole in present day life.

  • Contrast the two sources that show the US crime picture.

  • Explain and apply the basic elements of American criminal law.

  • Explain police discretion and how and when it is used.

  • Describe the stages of and actors in the criminal trial process.

  • Compare and contrast old and new generation jails and prisons.
