In this hands-on course, students explore basic anatomy, muscle groups, and safe body mechanics while learning introductory massage techniques used in professional settings. Introduction to Massage Therapy is designed for 11th and 12th grade students interested in careers in health sciences, wellness, and therapeutic services. Aligned with Iowa Career and Technical Education (CTE) Health Science standards, this course introduces students to the foundational knowledge and skills used in massage therapy and bodywork professions. Students will explore human anatomy, muscle structure, wellness practices, and professional communication while learning safe and ethical introductory massage techniques. The course emphasizes proper body mechanics, client communication, sanitation practices, and professionalism required in therapeutic settings. Through hands-on practice, demonstrations, and real-world scenarios, students will gain a foundational understanding of massage therapy as a career pathway.
